Congratulations to York Hospital's 2024 Q2 DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses Recipient

We are pleased to announce York Hospital’s 2024 second-quarter recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Congratulations to Ann Atwood, RN, a member of York Hospital’s Neurology team.

Ann was nominated by Joan Stow, patient of neurologist Dr. Peter Morin. As Joan’s nurse, Ann worked diligently with Joan to eliminate from her diet certain foods that exacerbated symptoms Joan was experiencing, and their collaborative efforts yielded significant improvements.

However, Joan explained that there was another reason why she nominated Nurse Ann for the DAISY award. Joan was also taking a critically important medication for those symptoms, and while traveling, discovered that she would need a refill, so she contacted the Neurology office for assistance. Joan’s nomination praised RN Ann Atwood for her relentless efforts to secure that critical medication refill.

Joan states: "My nurse, Ann Atwood, saved my life by spending hours of her time while I was away in Pasadena, California, working diligently to obtain a prescription to be filled at a CVS pharmacy.” Joan noted that initially the order didn’t go through, so Ann kept calling the pharmacy in California to ensure it would be filled. “Ann kept me in the loop throughout the process. When Ann called me again with the good news the pharmacist was filling the prescription at that very moment, can you imagine my gratitude!”

Joan ended her nomination by adding: “Nurse Atwood is my hero and deserves the DAISY Award. She means more to her patients than all the white billowy clouds in the sky, around the world.”

Congratulations, Ann! We couldn’t have said it better. Thank you for providing such supportive care and comfort to your patients at York Hospital.

The DAISY Award is an international program that celebrates extraordinary nursing care by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers.
