This October, York Hospital is also pleased to highlight one of our dedicated breast care experts, Amanda Demetri Lewis, DO, FACR. Dr. Lewis, a breast radiologist and director of York Hospital Breast Care, was recently honored as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR) during the College’s Annual Meeting, recognizing her significant contributions to the field and unwavering commitment to patient care.

This prestigious designation is one of the highest honors bestowed by the ACR, recognizing members who have demonstrated a significant commitment to the organization, organized radiology, teaching, and research. Only 15 percent of current ACR members have received this distinction, which requires a minimum of 10 years of cumulative ACR membership post-training.

The accomplishments recognized by the FACR designation extend beyond standard employment duties. ACR Fellows engage actively in networking and mentoring fellow members. Dr. Lewis was acknowledged by the ACR Board of Chancellors for her dedicated service at both national and state levels.

For the past seven years, Dr. Lewis has met with Maine’s congressional representatives in Washington, D.C., advocating for affordable medical care for all residents of Maine. She has also spoken in Augusta in support of breast density legislation and for state insurance coverage of all breast imaging. From 2020 to 2024, she served as president of the Maine Chapter of the ACR and the Maine Radiologic Society.

Dr. Lewis has been the medical director of York Hospital Breast Care since 2015. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she lives in Kittery Point with her husband and two sons.
