York Hospital’s Patrick Taylor, MD, MBA, Named Among “Top CEOs of Maine for 2023”

Patrick A. Taylor, MD, MBAYork Hospital is pleased to announce that President and CEO Patrick A. Taylor, MD, MBA, has been named among the “Top 25 CEOs of Maine for 2023” by Key Executives, ranking tenth overall. The award is based on research and data compiled by Key Executives, which provides the latest information on today’s leading corporate executives across the U.S. and covers a range of topics including leadership, innovation, technology, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness.

Dr. Taylor arrived at York Hospital in April 2021, one year into the COVID-19 pandemic, and faced unprecedented challenges. During his three-year tenure, he has partnered with the executive leadership team and a forward-thinking board of trustees to implement strategic initiatives that align with the hospital’s mission to enhance the health and wellness of the patients and communities it serves. The results include improvements in quality, safety, and service which support the delivery of convenient, accessible, and affordable care that is both high touch and high tech.

Among the most significant improvements was the installation of a state-of-the-art 128-slice Philips Incisive CT Scanner, which provides patients with the latest in imaging technology and allows earlier and faster diagnoses for a variety of conditions. Additionally, York Hospital worked with U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine) in 2022 and 2023 to secure grants through omnibus funding of the Health and Human Services appropriations committee. The funding includes $2.5 million toward the renovation of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and $155,000 for York Hospital’s Recovery Center to expand substance use disorder prevention efforts and improve access to treatment in Southern Maine.

Also notable are the numerous health care awards York Hospital has received throughout the past year while under Dr. Taylor’s leadership. These include:

  • A five-star rating for “Overall Hospital Quality” by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), one of four Maine hospitals to achieve this distinction
  • Five stars from Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (HCAHPS) for “Excellence in Nurse Communication”
  • Healthgrades “Outstanding Patient Experience Award” for the fourth consecutive year, scoring in the top 15% nationwide
  • Women’s Choice Awards in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Orthopedics, Outpatient Experience, Small Hospitals Comprehensive Care and Best Mammogram Imaging Center, most ranked within the top 3% in the U.S.
  • An “A” Grade in Social Responsibility from the Lown Institute for performance as care providers, employers, and community partners
  • Healogics Wound Center of Distinction award for “Outstanding Clinical Outcomes and High Patient Satisfaction” for the sixth consecutive year
  • “Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition for Pediatric, Primary Care and Internal Medicine Practices” from the National Committee for Quality Assurance

“I am proud to serve at York Hospital. I am inspired by our caregivers to whom this recognition is a tribute and energized by the continued trust the community places in us each day,” said Dr. Taylor.
